Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We are blessed and proud to have such a diverse school. Over half of Cristo Rey Columbus students have at least one parent who was born outside of the United States. In addition, about 10% of CRC students were born outside of the U.S. (in over 20 different countries). Cristo Rey families come from over 40 different countries including in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. Nearly half of Cristo Rey students speak a language other than English at home, including Creole, Hindi, Spanish, and Swahili.
We celebrate this diversity daily, but also with events relating to Black History Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, and International Night. Planned by our International Club, students and their families share dance, music, poetry, food and other aspects of their cultures with one another.
Recognizing the dignity of all people, the mission of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”) Committee is to educate and advise our students, parents, faculty, staff and board while navigating DEI issues at Cristo Rey Columbus High School. In so doing, we rely on these definitions:
Diversity
Recognition of external attributes of people, such as, race, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity and internal attributes, such as, a person’s values or experiences.
Equity
Seeking the fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all people, by striving to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent the full participation of historically underrepresented groups.
Inclusion
Actively creating environments that embrace differences in which any individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported and valued to foster participation and connectedness both collectively and individually.
